Stephen Mariano is the Vice President of Global Endosurgical R&D at FUJIFILM Healthcare Americas Corporation.
Stephen has a history of success in research and development for the medical device industry and led Fujifilm’s introduction into the endosurgical space in 2017.
He spearheaded the development and introductions of key Fujifilm endosurgical innovations, including the ELUXEO® VISION, the only in-market solution enabling physicians with direct visualization of tissue oxygenation – whether using flexible endoscope technology or rigid chip-on-tip laparoscopes, which was designated a Breakthrough Device by the FDA in 2020. He also led the development of TRACMOTION, Fujifilm’s retraction device for endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), which is designed to simplify ESD procedures.
He has led substantive advances in biomechanical research and development at Fujifilm and is a recognized advocate for usability and now digital connectivity in medical device development circles.
He has more than 20 years of experience navigating federal regulatory approvals and in bringing innovative technologies to market.
Stephen has a strong business and solid technical education background. He has an applied-science undergraduate degree and a Master of Science (MSc) in Material Science and Engineering, both from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Founded in 1865, WPI was one of the first engineering and technology universities in the U.S.
Before joining Fujifilm, Stephen worked for more than a decade at Lake Region Medical, which was then the largest medical device outsource (MDO) manufacturer in the world serving the cardiac, neuromodulation, orthopedics, vascular, advanced surgical and power solutions markets. Lake Region Medical is now part of Integer Holding Corporation.
