Dr. Paul Underwood practiced interventional cardiology and clinical research in Phoenix, AZ for nearly 20 years before joining Boston Scientific in 2009. His undergraduate studies were completed at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA. He received an MD degree from Mayo Clinic followed by a cardiology fellowship at Cleveland Clinic. He is a former president of the Association of Black Cardiologists. Prior to joining Boston Scientific he worked extensively with the American Heart Association locally and nationally to eliminate disparities in cardiovascular care and clinical outcomes. He is a strong proponent of minority participation in clinical research and believes that access to cutting edge technology is an important link for people to achieve their optimal health. Since joining Boston Scientific he has been a medical director in the Interventional Cardiology franchise. His responsibilities combine clinical and risk management for the Coronary Therapy franchise, as well as provide medical input for engineering and development teams. Most importantly he has been an advisor for Close the Gap (Boston Scientific’s health equity initiative) and the many projects they have launched to inform patients, providers and payors on their role to eradicate inequities in health outcomes.
