Kapil Gupta, MD, MPH, MBA is the senior medical director of medical affairs, Endoscopy, at Boston Scientific. In his role, Dr. Gupta manages and oversees the medical safety team and is responsible for providing medical expertise, support and guidance in the areas of quality and safety for all endoscopy products marketed worldwide and for all phases of clinical study of the company’s endoscopic devices, which includes gastroenterology and pulmonary devices. Dr. Gupta actively provides clinical and scientific expertise to research and development and commercial teams.
With nearly 14 years of clinical experience in advanced endoscopic procedures, Dr. Gupta is a nationally recognized expert in both endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). He has held academic positions at the University of Minnesota as well as Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he previously acted as the Clinical Chief for the center’s gastroenterology division and continues to serve as an Associate Professor of Medicine.
Dr. Gupta maintains his medical licensure and board certification in Gastroenterology from the American Board of Internal Medicine and is board certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine. He is also named as a Fellow of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. His clinical practice focused on advanced gastrointestinal endoscopy, working to bring novel, less-invasive and more accurate technologies into practice. He holds patents on multiple medical device innovations and has published research in the areas of endoscopic procedure techniques.
Dr. Gupta graduated from the University of Delhi, India, and completed his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship training at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center. He subsequently did a year of fellowship in interventional endoscopy at the University of Minnesota, completed a master’s degree in public health at SUNY Downstate Medical Center and completed a master’s degree in business administration from Kellogg School of Management.
