Michael Alabran

President, PSN Labs

Michael Alabran has a Bachelor’s Degree from Penn State University and a Master’s Degree from the University of Massachusetts in Plastics Engineering. With an entrepreneurial mindset, Mike brought a network of experience together to create PSN Labs, originally known as Plastics Services Network, established to solve manufacturing challenges in the plastics industry. He has extensive experience in a multitude of industries in new product development, material characterization, and plastics processing. Mike’s primary focus over the last decade has been optimizing the product development cycle, specifically for the medical device industry. PSN Labs offers a unique opportunity to develop or enhance products from start to finish, or at any stage of development, through three main labs: Engineering Design Lab, Processing Laboratory, and an ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Testing Lab. Mike is currently the Principal Engineer as well as President of PSN Labs.

    Characterizing the hazards of medical devices has always been a challenge. Materials are at the core challenge as supply chain disruptions have led to the need to alter materials in order to continue production of critical devices. The understanding of toxicology and the effect of chemistry on the human body is evolving in real-time. When you combine all these factors into an industry that is classically slow to alter the charted course – it leads to a perfect storm. We will take a look at what this means to the industry based on our belief that engineering, material selection, and biocompatibility are a three-legged stool in which each has to be effectively balanced all along the way of device manufacturing.
