Richard joined Primo Medical Group in 2011 as a Senior Engineering Project Manager (PM) and was promoted to Director of Engineering in 2013 and advanced to Vice President, Engineering R&D in 2018. He received his BS in Mechanical Engineering (1981) and MSME (1983) from WPI, has taken advanced design courses at WPI and MIT and received certifications for MIT Sloan Executive Management Training and WPI Project Management. He has 40 years of experience working with startups through large corporations in product design, advanced material properties, process development, problem solving and business development and IP management. Richard has lead product development in diverse product areas through machine design, commercial products, medical devices and coated products and has used a very hands-on approach in managing a wide range of projects.
Medical Device projects have included being part of the team at ABIOMED developing the first fully implantable artificial heart, blood chemistry analyzers, and working with a wide range of medical device companies in product design refinement and development for production and regulatory approval. He also provides mentoring and oversight for Jr. Project Managers. Project proposal writing is a key activity that includes detailed estimates of labor and other costs for potential clients.
