R&D Leader, Medical Device Solutions | Battelle

Mr. Brooks has more than 20 years of experience leading multi-functional product development teams. His background is in electronic systems design and has served in a variety of roles for product development projects for the commercial, government, and medical products industries. He has a superior blend of strategic management breadth and technical knowledge depth from his roles as line manager, program manager, chief engineer, and electrical design engineer positions.

Mr. Brooks is a seasoned R&D leader, driving innovation for Battelle’s Medical Device Solutions Systems Engineering group. Prior to his current role, he had responsibility for the Market Discovery and Insights & Transformative Solutions division within the Medical Device Solutions business.

Previously, he held various technical and project leadership positions over his career, including management of Systems, Software, and Electrical Engineering for contract services in two Battelle organizations, Chief Engineer, and Program Manager for all new product development at Rubbermaid Healthcare, and Project Manager for the development of a biological agent detection system for the DOD.
He possesses vast experience with process improvements initiatives focusing on lean efficiencies for improved performance. He is a seasoned professional in business, project financial management, and long list of successful product development projects of state-of-the-art technologies and products including holding multiple patents. He has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineer from the Ohio University and a certification in Professional Project Management.

    The BioPharma R&D pipeline is increasingly witnessing next-generation therapies based on new modalities such as CRISPR, mRNA, BiTEs and engineered cell and gene therapies. Many of these therapies work phenomenally better or require by design to be delivered directly to the organ, affected tissue or tumor environment. One of the key priorities in medical device research and development is to create minimally invasive interventional procedures for delivering drugs to difficult-to-access anatomies. Interventional procedures aided by general surgical robotics has the potential to improve reliability, reduce complexity and create a less invasive approach. This session will highlight how these next gen drug delivery systems designed around installed surgical robotic capabilities, streamline device development, reduce costs, while accelerating training and deployment time.
